OUR STORY & PHILOSOPHY

Tanoti Sdn Bhd is a congregation of Sarawakian women weavers and artisans dedicated towards the production, promotion and proliferation of hand-crafted fabrics. Tanoti aims to make good the vision of the foundation, that is to improve lives and livelihoods of womenfolk and rural communities through the ancient art of songket weaving. At Tanoti, the rattan craft development initiative to introduce sustainable income generation opportunities via rattan craft to Sarawak’s remote forest communities. Tanoti undertakes this initiative because Tanoti recognises the capability of the jungle resource of rattan to be converted to craft which can then be a potent vehicle to enhance livelihoods.

Our Team 2B, have the same vision with Tanoti. To improve the product appearance and design of the hand-crafted products, 2B Team has organized "The Artisanal Designer Project" with the main purpose to bring the designer to Miri and meet with Sarawakian women weavers to teach design thinking in a week. In the meantime, the participants will learn weaving skill from the local community and have a culture exchange between each other. This program helps to build communities by fostering an appreciation for the arts; by introducing artistic, cultural activity and professional artists; and by creating links between exposure to the arts and audience development.
